Part Time/Per Diem Work

A Standardized Patient (SP) is an individual trained to portray a real patient in order to simulate a set of symptoms or problems used for healthcare education, evaluation, and research. SPs are trained to play the role of a patient or a family member to allow participants to practice history taking skills, physical exam skills and communication skills. SPs are trained to realistically portray a variety of patient types in a standardized, structured and repeatable way. The type of patient portrayals may include patient’s in physical, mental or emotional pain, patients receiving bad news or being counseled on health maintenance needs, and patients undergoing non-invasive physical examinations.

Selected candidates will receive extensive training in:

• Portraying a realistic patient.
• Simulating symptoms.
• Undergoing and assessing non-invasive physical examinations.
• Accurately assessing participants on guided checklists.
• Providing communication based verbal feedback.

Requirements:

This is not full time work or a guaranteed # of hours per week/per month.

• Daytime availability, Monday through Friday, 8 am – 6 pm (to work a flexible schedule). 
• Reliability, flexibility and punctuality are essential.
• Excellent memorization, recall, and communication Skills.
• Ability to be objective and follow directions.
• Basic computer skills utilizing the mouse/keyboard, as well as familiarity with Zoom.
• Acting experience desirable but not required.
• Previous Standardized Patient experience desirable but not required.
• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), associate or bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Clinical Simulation Center uses standardized patients, simulation technology and state of the art medical technologies to support the education, development, and evaluation of healthcare professionals and students to create a safer environment for patients.
