Job Description

The Automation Technician is responsible for the continuous operation, maintenance, and optimization of automated manufacturing cells and facility infrastructure. You will bridge the gap between traditional industrial maintenance and advanced robotics, ensuring that injection molding presses, robots, and vision systems operate at peak efficiency. This role requires a proactive mindset to not only fix what is broken but to innovate and improve existing processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Equipment & Facility Maintenance
  • Full-Spectrum Maintenance: Ensure all machinery, equipment, building structures, and facilities are maintained and functioning properly to minimize downtime.
  • Specialized Systems: Perform hands-on maintenance on manufacturing equipment, including injection mold presses, auxiliary equipment (dryers, thermolators, chillers), and miscellaneous plant hardware.
  • Vision System Calibration: Make critical adjustments to vision systems to ensure accurate defect detection and part orientation during the automated cycle.
2. Preventative Maintenance (PM) & Records
  • PM Program Execution: Actively participate in the preventative maintenance program to ensure optimum machine utilization and longevity.
  • Documentation: Ensure the accuracy and integrity of maintenance history records for all equipment, providing a clear audit trail for regulatory compliance (ISO 13485/FDA).
3. Innovation & Process Improvement
  • Continuous Improvement: Recommend and lead innovative improvements to upgrade equipment, decrease cycle times, and improve safety.
  • New Technology Integration: Assist in the installation and commissioning of new automation peripherals, end-of-arm tooling (EOAT), and robotic cells.
4. Troubleshooting & Technical Support
  • Diagnose complex electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on high-speed automation equipment.
  • Support Production by resolving "nuisance alarms" or mechanical failures that halt the manufacturing process.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Technical degree or certification in Mechatronics, Electromechanical Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance or automation, specifically within a Plastic Injection Molding environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting, hydraulics, pneumatics, and robotics (e.g., Fanuc, Wittmann, Sepro).
