CNC Machinists and Large Lathe
Job Description
The CNC Machinist and CNC Machinist – Large Lathe are responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC machines to produce high-quality precision parts. The CNC Machinist uses various CNC machines, while the CNC Machinist – Large Lathe focuses on operating a large lathe for turning precision parts up to 63 inches in diameter and 40 feet long. Both roles require troubleshooting, mechanical adjustments, and adherence to blueprint specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machining Operations: Plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, and specifications. Perform precision machining using CNC machines or large lathes.
- Setup and Programming: Install and adjust tools, fixtures, and materials on machines. Program and operate CNC machines and large lathes, ensuring proper alignment and calibration.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect parts using precision measuring tools to ensure compliance with dimensional and quality specifications. Maintain logs of completed work and document any rejected pieces.
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Monitor machines for malfunctions, perform mechanical adjustments, and troubleshoot issues. Maintain and perform preventive maintenance on equipment as required.
- Safety and Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, maintain a clean and organized work environment, and document actions in production and quality logs.
- Rigging and Heavy Lifting: For CNC Machinist – Large Lathe, operate large bridge cranes for rigging and handling large parts and materials.
Job Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A 2-year technical college degree is preferred.
- Experience:
- CNC Machinist: Minimum of 5 years of machine tool trade experience.
- CNC Machinist – Large Lathe: Minimum of 5 years of experience with large lathes, preferred.
- Experience with horizontal milling machines is required for CNC Machinists.
- Knowledge of Fanuc controls and spray welding is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of CNC programming, setup, and operation.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, CAD files, and work orders.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools and perform advanced mathematical calculations.
- Experience with rigging using large bridge cranes (CNC Machinist – Large Lathe).
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently on complex projects with minimal guidance.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Adaptability to changing work priorities and environments.

- Frequent reaching into small or tight spaces to adjust or maintain equipment.
- Regular use of hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and hammers.
- Ability to frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a manufacturing environment with moderate to loud noise levels. Safety protocols must be followed, and reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
