We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) for assistance with our son. This role requires a unique individual who is open to being trained in Spelling to Communicate.

Responsibilities and Illustrative Duties

• Skill Development: Assist individuals in developing skills necessary for working and living in the community, including finding, obtaining, and maintaining employment, and participating in integrated age-appropriate recreational and leisure activities.
• Social Role Valorization (SRV): Implement and promote the concept of SRV.
• Team Effort: Develop and foster an attitude of team effort and cooperation.
• Confidentiality: Maintain and follow all HIPAA confidentiality protocols for information about the individuals in this program.
• Health Status Monitoring: Notify the Supervisor of any changes in the individual’s health status immediately and document pertinent medical and behavioral incidents. Be familiar with the individual’s records.
• ISP Goals: Be aware of ISP goals, written programs, documentation requirements, and the proper implementation thereof, making a conscious effort to apply them to daily living skills.
• Safety Procedures: Follow safety procedures as outlined in the Employee Safety Program.
• Community Integration: Locate job sites and other integrated settings in the community (recreation, leisure, therapeutic, etc).
• Relationships: Maintain a professional working relationship with the individual, employer, community members, family members, etc.
• Community Interaction: Encourage interaction between the individual and other community members.
• Activities and Appointments: Willingness to exercise at the Y and Mines Falls, take individuals to appointments, music therapy, bowling, mini golf, and other recreational activities, and read and learn new things every day.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Licenses: Valid Driver's License.
• Transportation: Reliable transportation and insured car.
• Record: Clean criminal record.
• Communication: Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written) with all internal and external staff/guardians.
• Physical Ability: Ability to lift 30 lbs.
• Advocacy: Desire and ability to relate to and advocate for people with disabilities.
