Job Description
Location: Rochester, NY
Pay Rate: $40–$50 per hour
Schedule: 9/80 work schedule, 1st shift
Shift Start: Flexible start between 6:30 AM – 8:00 AM
Overtime: Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required
Position Overview
The Manufacturing Technical Engineer will support multiple manufacturing and prototyping projects within a collaborative, fast-paced environment. This role is a blend of hands-on shop floor support and technical documentation, requiring close interaction with production teams, engineering, and leadership. Approximately 60% of the role is desk-based, with 40% spent on the manufacturing floor providing real-time updates, guidance, and technical support.
Work Environment & Team
  • Combination of office and production floor (60% desk / 40% floor)
  • Regular interaction with manufacturing personnel to provide updates and resolve issues
  • Supports various concurrent projects
  • Team size: Approximately 12 members
Key Responsibilities
  • Review and interpret electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical drawings
  • Translate engineering drawings into clear, detailed work instructions
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting support for assembly, integration, and testing issues
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and project updates
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Coordinate across multiple disciplines to ensure project alignment and execution
  • Balance and prioritize multiple projects in a dynamic manufacturing environment
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, quality standards, and labor practices
Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)
Hard Skills
  • 4–8 years of experience in manufacturing and/or prototyping environments
  • Strong ability to interpret and work from electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical drawings
  • Experience creating and maintaining detailed work instructions
  • Proven troubleshooting skills in assembly, integration, and testing
  • Strong documentation and record-keeping skills
  • Effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders
Soft Skills
  • Strong coordination and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams
  • Ability to multitask and manage shifting priorities
  • Clear and professional communication with operations leadership
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and travel as required
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)
Hard Skills
  • Experience in the Airborne, Aerospace, or Defense industries
  • Familiarity with machinery, machine building, and precision engineering
  • Experience with optical metrology
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Understanding of Quality Management Systems (ISO / AS9100)
Soft Skills
  • Proactive ownership of schedules and stakeholder alignment
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to act quickly and safely under pressure
Additional Requirements / Deal Breakers
  • Ability and willingness to support a 9/80 work schedule
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Must be willing to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
