Engineering Technician
Job Description
- Assemble optical, mechanical, and electrical hardware to extremely tight tolerances (commonly microns or ±0.001").
- Work within Class 100 (ISO 5) Clean Room and non-clean room environments.
- Perform high-precision lapping of various materials to meet flatness, parallelism, and angular tolerances.
- Interpret and work from manufacturing instructions, engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models.
- Diagnose assembly issues and recommend effective corrective actions.
- Maintain traceability of individual components within kits during the assembly process.
- Bond, modify, and rework hardware in support of developmental and production builds.
- Handle sensitive optical components (e.g., lenses, mirrors) safely and without damage.
- Provide feedback to engineering teams to improve processes and documentation.
- Operate with limited supervision while achieving operational goals in quality, schedule, and cost.
- Set objectives and priorities for assigned lab tasks and responsibilities.
- Influence project-level decisions through technical knowledge and practical experience.
- Follow detailed build documentation and maintain compliance with program and company standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent with 6+ years of relevant experience, or
- Associate degree with 2+ years of hands-on technical experience.
- Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience working in Class 100 (ISO 5) Clean Room environments.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting and hands-on assembly skills.
- Comfortable using a variety of hand tools and test equipment (e.g., torque wrenches, multimeters).
