Director of Warehouse Operations / Logistics
Position Overview
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Logistics Leadership
- Develop and lead programs and policies related to logistics, production control, and warehouse operations
- Direct all domestic and international shipments, including guidance on order processing and shipping methods
- Provide direction to Sales Representatives and Managers on optimal shipment strategies
- Collaborate with order entry, billing, and corporate tax teams to ensure accurate data entry and compliance
- Communicate directly with overseas freight forwarders to ensure timely customs clearance and avoid delays
Vendor & Cost Management
- Negotiate freight rates with carriers to secure optimal pricing and service
- Establish and manage vendor relationships for shipping supplies and services
Inventory & Asset Management
- Lead asset management activities, including participating in asset management meetings
- Oversee annual physical inventory and periodic cycle counts
- Analyze inventory and service workflows, including disposition of obsolete or uneconomical items
Warehouse Operations & Process Improvement
- Partner with the Warehouse Manager to develop procedures for storage, handling, and workflow efficiency
- Oversee product flow through testing, configuration, service, and quality control areas
- Ensure quality standards are met for all outgoing products
- Direct scheduling and prioritization in quality control (QC) operations
Team Leadership & Development
- Assist in hiring and onboarding new employees
- Conduct employee performance evaluations and manage disciplinary actions
- Ensure staff training programs are available and effective (on-site or off-site)
Facilities & Compliance
- Maintain a safe, clean, and secure work environment
- Ensure compliance with state safety regulations and ISO quality standards
- Manage subcontractors for facility maintenance, cleaning, and waste removal
Qualifications
Education
- High School diploma required; Business degree or equivalent experience preferred
Experience
- Minimum 5 years managing warehouse operations, manufacturing, or service environments
Skills
- Strong communication and leadership abilities
- Knowledge of QA/QC procedures and manufacturing processes
- Proficiency with PCs and operational systems
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge of freight operations, international shipping, and material handling equipment
