Job Description

The Inventory Management Specialist is responsible for performing a variety of physical and administrative tasks to support the shipping, receiving, storing, and distribution of materials, parts, supplies, and equipment. This role requires assessing shipment needs, determining the most efficient and cost-effective shipping methods, and ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of materials. The position involves managing inventory, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with material handling and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Shipping & Receiving:

    • Perform tasks related to shipping, receiving, and storing of materials, parts, supplies, and equipment.
    • Reject unsatisfactory items when necessary and determine the appropriate routing and arrangements for shipments based on factors such as item nature, handling method, size, urgency, and cost.
    • Consult rate schedules for specific shipping rates based on method and distance, and assess the most economical and efficient carriers for transport.
    • Calculate and record storage, redelivery, and other applicable charges. Reroute urgent shipments or arrange special deliveries as needed.
  • Inventory Management:

    • Receive incoming materials, unpack and check goods against purchase orders or invoices, verifying quantity, weight, and conformance to specifications.
    • Maintain accurate records of received goods, process freight bills, packing sheets, and other documents.
    • Stock and distribute materials in inventory and on manufacturing lines.
    • Lift heavy items and operate material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, ensuring adherence to material handling procedures and EHS requirements.
  • Record Keeping & Documentation:

    • Prepare and maintain records of products shipped, track shipments, and ensure accurate documentation is kept for all inventory transactions.

Job Requirements

  • Education & Experience:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associate's Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Developing job knowledge and skills in inventory management and logistics.
    • Ability to follow established processes and identify issues in straightforward situations, escalating to supervisors as necessary.
    • Strong communication skills to interact with department contacts, providing and obtaining information that may require explanation or interpretation.
    • Knowledge of material handling procedures and Environmental Health and Safety requirements.

Supervision & Work Environment:

  • Supervision:
    • Works under general supervision, with less detailed instructions provided. Moderate peer review is required.
  • Work Environment:
    • The role involves working to achieve operational targets within the job area, with some impact on the overall achievement of results for the team. Work is typically less structured and involves smaller, task-related activities.
