I. Position in the Organization
A. Reports to: Director of Supply Chain and Logistics
B. Directly supervises: N/A
C. Indirectly supervises: N/A
II. Major Responsibilities
- Coordinates all outgoing shipments while providing excellent customer service at competitive rates.
- Works with Purchasing to coordinate inbound LTL & FTL shipments to ensure cost efficient timely deliveries of raw materials and other company routed products.
- Serves as a source of routing and rate information for the Customer Service and Sales Departments.
- Obtains volume LTL and spot truckload quotes to reduce freight expenses.
- Coordinate shipping to and from converters.
- Assists Purchasing as needed.
III. Specific Responsibilities
- Monitors daily shipments and coordinates carrier selection and notification.
- Coordinates the shipments of stock to outside converters and warehouses.
- Schedules export shipments, coordinates shipping schedules, and transmits appropriate documents to forwarders and customers.
- Proactively monitors shipments and resolves issues as needed.
- Negotiates carrier rates and maintains routing guides.
- Files loss and damage claims with carriers.
- Review and process all inbound and outbound freight invoices.
- Responsible for maintaining all information regarding SmartWay.
- Collection of all data
- Inputting data into SmartWay tool.
- Performs other duties as directed including backup for purchasing and stockroom.
- Routinely submit competitive freight quoting and report results.
- Participate in organization improvement projects.
IV. Relationships
INTERNAL: Maintains effective daily communications with internal stakeholders.
EXTERNAL: Routine contact with customers, suppliers, outside converters, and representatives of transportation and distribution organizations.
PERSONNEL SPECIFICATIONS
I. EDUCATION
BA/BS in Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience.
II. EXPERIENCE
Minimum 3 years’ experience in transportation & logistics preferably within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
III. SKILLS
Must have strong oral and written communication skills for interacting with both internal and external customers. Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment and contribute to a cohesive team. The ability to multi-task, analyze information, and make timely decisions is essential.
Needs knowledge of computers (Microsoft Windows products and familiarity with ERP system) and be detailed oriented and flexible. Project / Process management skills are a plus.
