Job Description

The Press Brake Operator is responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of press brake machinery to bend, shape, and cut sheet metal and metal plates according to specifications. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that the fabrication plant runs efficiently by producing high-quality parts and maintaining safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Operation: Operates the press brake machine to manufacture components from sheet metal or metal plates. Uses machine controls to adjust bending and shaping operations based on product specifications.
  • Setup and Adjustment: Prepares, sets up, and adjusts the press brake machine according to job requirements, ensuring proper alignment of materials.
  • Material Management: Verifies sufficient raw materials are available, measures and aligns materials to be used, and reports material issues to the supervisor.
  • Production Output: Ensures production quantities are met within established tolerances and deadlines, operating additional machines such as grinders or forming rolls as needed.
  • Quality Control: Measures finished parts using precision tools to ensure they meet quality and cosmetic specifications. Maintains records of units produced and documents any rejected pieces.
  • Maintenance: Inspects machinery before use, performs basic routine maintenance, and adjusts equipment as needed to ensure proper functioning.
  • Work Area Safety: Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area, adhering to all safety protocols and using equipment correctly.

Job Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of machine operation experience in a manufacturing facility or related field.
  • Ability to operate press brake machinery safely and efficiently. Familiarity with Amada press brake equipment is a plus.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, routings, and specifications.
  • Competence in using measuring tools, cutting tools, and other precision equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and work in a dynamic environment.
  • Must pass a post-employment drug screen and background check.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to move large and small components into machines and handle small parts with precision.
  • Frequent reaching into tight spaces and positioning oneself to maintain or adjust equipment.
  • Regular lifting and moving of items up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
