Material Handler
Job Description
SUMMARY
Responsible for servicing all production departments with delivery of raw materials/supplies and removal of all finished goods, excess materials, unneeded materials, bins, racks, etc. The purpose of this position is to support production activities, allowing operators the ability to focus their efforts on direct value-added activities that support our customers needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responds to supervisor and group leader requests for raw materials and supplies as needed.
- Transfers finished goods from production areas to shipping.
- Performs Epicor transactions to account for raw material issued to production and for FG being transferred from production into shipping locations.
- Assures all min/max, Kanban locations are kept fully supplied as indicated by signage.
- Removes excess WIP and returns to stock when needed.
- Assures minimal lost production time resulting from job changeovers as it relates to the supply of materials.
- Takes charge of dies and tools making sure they are updated in the log and returned to their correct location.
- Works in close connection with supply chain team to coordinate movement of materials, FIFO, etc.
- Verifies FG have proper labels according to product, including required signatures and initials prior to transfer.
- Refers more complex issues of product acceptability to Production Supervisor or Quality for approval.
- Participates in a variety of cleaning duties during production shut down.
- Maintains aisles and all work areas in clean and safe condition.
- Performs set-up and operation of all machinery he/she has been trained to operate during any downtime.
- Performs all other duties as assigned or needed.
Job Requirements
- High school, GED or equivalent work experience.
- Pallet jack operator experience preferred.
- Previous forklift experience desired.
- Ability to work in, or quickly learn Epicor system transactions process.
- Ability to communicate verbally in English is required.
- Ability to interact well with and treat production employees as customers.
- Must be self-directed and work without close supervision.
- The ability to read and comprehend various paperwork, labels, job travelers and work instructions.
- The ability to count and complete basic mathematical calculations.
- The ability to be trained to use pallet jacks.
- The ability to be trained to operate motorized stacking machines, to include fork trucks and walkie stack
- The position requires the ability to stand, walk, climb, and/or sit.
- The incumbent must be able to use their hands to finger, handle and touch materials, parts, and equipment.
- The position requires the ability to both talk and hear.
- Required to lift 10 pounds frequently; and push and/or lifts up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Although not typically performed, the incumbent is required when lifting over 40 pounds to use prescribed methods which include material handling equipment.
- Required to transport 400-pound pallets from production to the warehouse using a pallet jack.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include: close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- In the production environment, the position is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
- May infrequently be exposed to work in elevated area.
- May be exposed to above average / below average temperatures. During peak seasons, above average temperatures are intensified around machinery.
- The noise level in the production work environment is usually loud.
- Employees are expected to comply with existing safety procedures including but not limited to proper lifting mechanics, use of protective equipment and maintaining a safe work environment
- Ability to work at pace determined by machines.
