CNC Milling Machinist – Mold Making
Location: Portland, CT
 Industry: Manufacturing
 Employment Type: Direct Hire
 Pay Rate: $30–$50/hour (based on experience)
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced CNC Milling Machinist with mold making experience to join our toolroom team. This role focuses on programming and machining molds using Mastercam, troubleshooting mold performance, and producing high-precision tooling in a manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on position ideal for a skilled tradesperson who enjoys owning projects from start to finish.
Responsibilities
  • Program, set up, and operate CNC milling machines using Mastercam
  • Manufacture, repair, and modify injection molds and mold components
  • Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and GD&T
  • Select tooling, plan machining strategies, and machine to tight tolerances
  • Troubleshoot mold and part issues; perform rework as needed
  • Assist with mold sampling and production trials
  • Build fixtures and precision tooling as required
  • Follow all quality and safety standards in a toolroom environment
Requirements
  • 2+ years of mold making experience (required)
  • Strong CNC milling background (toolroom or mold shop experience preferred)
  • Proficiency in Mastercam Mill (required)
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and tolerances
  • Experience with tight-tolerance machining and complex geometries
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Trade school or apprenticeship in Tool & Die, Mold Making, or CNC Machining preferred
Work Environment & Schedule
  • Regular overtime; weekends as needed
  • Toolroom / manufacturing setting (noise, metal chips, oils)
  • PPE required
  • Forklift certification provided if needed
