Pen Technical Lead
Job Description
Location: Lawrence, MA.
Pay Rate: Up to $60,000 annually (paid hourly; overtime paid at 1.5x for hours worked over 40/week)
Training/Shift: New hires will train on first shift, then support across all three shifts.
Hours:
First, Second, and Third Shifts (Flexibility required; occasional weekends as needed)
- Conduct daily huddles to communicate priorities, safety updates, and production targets.
- Plan and allocate resources (staff, equipment, materials) for maximum efficiency on first shift and to support second and third shifts.
- Evaluate workflow to ensure efficient start-ups, smooth production pace, and quick changeovers while maintaining high quality standards.
- Perform start-up checks and make technical adjustments on GPE equipment and related pen decoration machinery to optimize performance.
- Ensure proper sequencing of jobs using dispatch lists to meet production timelines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production or quality issues, escalating as needed.
- Audit work methods and quality daily to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Provide hands-on technical training for operators, emphasizing GPE equipment operation and maintenance best practices.
- Collaborate with Maintenance to identify, communicate, and prioritize equipment service needs.
- Inspect decorated products throughout the shift to ensure customer specifications and Gemline quality standards are met.
- Track, analyze, and enter production and quality data to assess performance and provide timely feedback.
- Assist in staffing decisions and adjustments in coordination with other supervisors.
- Support process improvement and Lean initiatives to reduce waste, improve throughput, and enhance quality.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment, enforcing safety policies and practices.
- Sustain strong cross-shift communication to ensure alignment on goals, issues, and solutions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership skills.
- Ability to motivate, influence, and develop team members.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
- Strong understanding of GPE pen decoration equipment operation and maintenance.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in pen manufacturing.
- Ability to apply Continuous Improvement concepts regularly.
- Commitment to ongoing skill and process development.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical training or coursework in Manufacturing, Printing, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in pen manufacturing, with direct hands-on experience in GPE pen decoration equipment (required).
- Demonstrated history of leading teams in a production environment.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including occasional weekends, for shift support.
