The Lumper is an entry-level position that acts primarily as an assistant to the operator. The basic job function is to ink and clean the press, while performing this standard duty and assisting press make-ready, the Lumper should observe the daily operation of the press to acquire skills and knowledge required to become a feeder operator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Report personnel or product safety concerns to management.
Recognize and understand the purpose of the printing schedule, job tags, and red hold tags.
Locate correct loads for press runs by means of job numbers on load tags.
Determine proper orientation with regard to side guides and front guides.
Aerate sheets using the aerator-jogger.
Remove substandard of designated sheets and run them last.
Make swift, uninterrupted, load changes during the press run.
Respond diligently to the press operator’s requests for assistance.
Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Observe and lean all facets of press operation.
Establish and maintain a cooperative relationship with all printing personnel.
Maintain physical fitness required for frequent bending and lifting.
